The Digital Media Licensing Association works hard to promote our member companies and advocate on behalf of their interests. In addition to holding our annual conference, providing members-only documents and legal information, and facilitating connections within our industry, the DMLA advocates on a variety of legal and legislative issues, including copyright law.

The reviews are in: The 2020 Digital Media Licensing Conference delivered its promise of better-than-ever content while taking the event back to its international roots, attracting 240 persons from 16 countries to the six-day event.
From comprehensive sessions on hot topics in tech and legal to mind-bending demonstrations of synthetic cars, scenery and people, more than 60 speakers delivered a robust educational experience to participants. Each of the 26 educational panels and roundtables earned ratings above 8.5 out of 10.

2020 has been one of the most tumultuous years in recent history. From the global coronavirus pandemic to Black Lives Matter protests, photojournalists have been challenged like never before and forced to adapt to new conditions on a nearly daily basis.
A group of press photographers shared their work and experiences from the streets of New York to inside the White House at the 2020 Digital Media Licensing Conference from the Digital Media Licensing Association. From hospitals and looting, to demonstrations and Rose Garden press conferences, this year has dished out non-stop news.

After a year of collaboration with the Digital Media Licensing Association, Google has launched its highly anticipated licensable image features. These features will help users identify images from licensors in Google search results.
However, there’s more to it than the badge. Through the Usage Rights filter users now can restrict search results to images available for commercial licensing.
The Digital Media Licensing Association’s Technology Committee, as part of its 2020 Initiatives, is focused on metadata preservation for photography and video.
The head of the committee, Mark Milstein, CEO of Microstock Solutions, also sits on the IPTC Video Metadata Hub committee, helping the footage licensing industry bridge technical differences on both sides of the Atlantic. Strides have been made in creating metadata standards for still imagery, and footage stands to benefit next.
“Central to that committee’s role is the creation of a universal metadata standard for video,” Milstein said. …
